Abandoned by Her Husband

Mohsin Begum, the sister-in-law of Waseela Imrad Ali, has been struggling to support her family ever since her husband, battling addiction, disappeared and never returned home. Left alone with four children, she has worked tirelessly to make ends meet. Her eldest son, Fawad Ali, recently completed his matriculation and began learning electrical work at a small shop, thanks to an arrangement made by his uncle, Imrad Ali.

Despite her efforts, Mohsin’s sewing work barely brings in enough income, as job opportunities in her area are scarce and the pay is low. Her earnings are not enough to cover the family's basic needs, and she has fallen behind on rent payments for several months.

Recognizing the urgency of her situation, we decided to provide short-term financial assistance to help her through this difficult period. Our goal is to stabilize the family's immediate needs and, after six months, to help Fawad Ali develop his skills further, enabling him to secure a sustainable income and a better future for his family.

Our Short-Term Support initiative offers immediate relief to individuals and families facing crises, ensuring they receive essential aid to navigate challenging times. This program provides temporary but impactful assistance to those affected by unforeseen hardships, such as job loss, natural disasters, health expense or economic downturns.

History

The Short-Term Support Program initiative started during the COVID-19 pandemic, when countless individuals, especially in low-income regions like Pakistan, faced unexpected unemployment. Many families, particularly those relying on daily wages, suddenly found themselves without a source of income. This situation was dire for people already struggling at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder, including the terminally ill, elderly, and those with chronic physical disabilities, who were left without sufficient governmental or private aid.

To address this urgent need, we developed the Waseela methodology, enabling our team to act as a bridge between those in need and available resources. Members of our organization, deeply embedded in local communities, referred individuals within their circles who were impacted by these harsh circumstances.

We quickly established systems to assess, evaluate, and register these individuals, ensuring they received immediate sustenance and support during these challenging times. Through this initiative, we’ve offered critical short- term aid, empowering families to regain their footing and move toward long- term stability.
